Quick-Start Guides for GPTs
Prompt DesignContent StrategyPrototyping
How might we develop a scalable system to generate clear, comprehensive user guides for GPTs?
Inspiration
The GPT Store enables developers to create and share specialized AI assistants, but even popular GPTs with millions of conversations provide minimal guidance on effective use. New users face confusing, visually identical interfaces that mask widely varying capabilities and interaction patterns.
Solution
Created two key prompts supporting interaction research and user guide generation:
- GPT Diagnostic Prompt - Supporting systematic analysis
- Quick-Start User Guide Generator Prompt - Creating practical documentation
I also made a small, exploratory prototype to showcase how we might integrate the content created from the Guide Generator prompt into the GPT UI.
Opportunities
- Create a foundation for scalable documentation across the GPT Store
- Leverage a standardized guide format that’s flexible for different use cases
Learnings
- GPTs can effectively articulate their own design principles and usage patterns
- Documentation needs to balance technical depth with practical guidance
- More visual and interaction changes could further improve user understanding
